Areas of Expertise

EMDR

I have been an EMDR Certified therapist for almost 10 years.  EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR therapy has even been superior to Prozac in trauma treatment (Van der Kolk et al., 2007). Shapiro and Forrest (2016) share that more than 7 million people have been treated successfully by 110,000 therapists in 130 countries since 2016.

Group Therapy

Group therapy can be a powerful and effective way to practice interpersonal learning and empathetic communication.  Through group participation, clients learn about how other people experience them in relationship.  Group is an amazing opportunity to practice expressing feelings, communicating with and relating to others in healthy ways.  Group can provide learning opportunities for practicing skills specific to boundaries, healthy conflict, and repair.

Clinical Supervision

For LMSW's seeking supervision toward their advanced license, I provide supervision through individual and group supervision methods.  I partner with LMSW's to explore their talents and apply them to the work that they do with clients in their practice settings.  I offer supervision with focus on my experiences as a BIPOC therapist, utilizing EMDR, CBT, Relational, Attachment Focused Therapy, Group Therapy, and PAT.  I incorporate my health and wellness background to yield learning that incorporates learning around wellness based practices for healing.

My Approach

My approach to helping clients achieve their therapy goals is holistic.  I utilize an empathetic and relational approach in the therapeutic relationship.  EMDR is an 8 step scripted protocol.  I work with strong fidelity to the protocol with clients who are seeking to resolve their relational trauma, general trauma, and adverse life events.  I have a strong background in cognitive behavioral therapy.  Additionally, I help clients explore health issues that could be playing a role in the clients health journeys.  I also have a strong network of health and wellness providers that I refer to that assist in self care, medical and nutritional support, energetic and spiritual guidance, and overall wellness.  With nearly 3 decades experience in the mental health field, I am confident that you will achieve your goals in an efficient manner in our time working together.
